How can I return a book/request a refund?

In all cases, unwanted orders should be returned in their original packaging at your own expense to the address below.

Items should be returned to us by the most economical method. They remain your property until we have received them.

Please use your order number as a return reference, making sure it is written clearly on the packaging. This information can be found on your order confirmation email and invoice.

Damaged Books:

If you have received a damaged book, please contact Online Customer Services by email to [e-mail] for advice on a replacement or return. 

We will either replace the item or give you a full refund and provide a prepaid return label for you to return the damaged book received, subject to determining if the book is worth returning to us.   

We require all damaged items to be reported to us within 72 hours of delivery and a photograph provided showing the damage.

Faulty books:

If you have received a faulty book eg with insecure binding, or it has been misprinted, please contact Online Customer Services by email to [e-mail] for advice on a replacement or return. 

We will either replace the item or give you a full refund and provide a prepaid return label for you to return the faulty book received, subject to determining if the book is worth returning to us.   

We do ask that all faulty items are reported to us within 72 hours where possible, and a photograph provided showing the issue with the book.

NB Depending on the issue, some misprints in books or binding faults may only be discovered at a later date, however, please let us know of the problem as soon as it is discovered and we can advise further.

Proof of Postage:

Please get proof of postage and tracking when returning an item so that we can check on the progress of the item and be able to confirm receipt at our Distribution Centre.

NB Always retain this information until your refund has been actioned in the event of any delays or disputes.  

Important to note: 

• Please allow up to 10 working days for your return to be processed once it has arrived back at our distribution centre
• If your book was dispatched from a US supplier, please consult your delivery note for the appropriate returns address in the United States
• Items should be returned to us by the most economical method. The book(s) remain your property until we have received them

Refunds are subject to the following conditions:

• The book(s) must be returned within twenty-one days of receipt in the UK, forty-eight days of receipt in Europe, and four months of receipt in any country outside the UK or Europe
• The book(s) must be in a pristine and resalable condition
• The book(s) must be accompanied by a copy of the delivery note or receipt

All returns are accepted at the discretion of Blackwell Online, and refunds will be given in the same tender type as the original payment.

How can I return a book I ordered from a Blackwell's bookshop?

If you placed an order in one of our bookshops and prepaid for your item, please contact the bookshop to obtain a refund.

Can I return a book I purchased online to one of your stores?

Yes. Please make sure you read our return policy before making your trip though. In order for any store to process the return, you will need to have proof of purchase (invoice) and the payment method used to place the order. 

Can I return a book I purchased on Blackwell's Online to a Waterstones shop or vice versa?

No - we regret there is currently no facility to refund a Blackwell's order in a Waterstones shop or vice versa.

Business, institutional, or corporate customers returns: 

Please note that the above does not cover institutional or corporate customers purchasing under a framework contract. If you have purchased on behalf of an organisation, please contact your Account Manager for returns information.

Business customers may return 10% of their orders within 60 days, providing the items are in their original condition. Any return postage costs incurred are the responsibility of the customer.
